Art Activities For Toddlers

Art is important in everyones life. The early you start the better they get in this skill. Its great for early childhood development as it improves fine motor skills, concentration, their creativity, expressing emotions, confidence, eye hand coordination, language development as well as decision making. They experiment with different clours, textures and materials and create unique masterpieces.

What Age Should Young Kids Begin Art?

Art is a great skill and learning activity.Ithink it should be started as early as 6-8 months. In my opinion the early you start ,the more creative they are in later years and have some interest to do crafty work.I introduced finger paints ,crayons and stamps from 7 months onward and my children started to show more and more interest in arts and craft and are still enjoying it during their free time.

What Sort Of Art Activities Are Best For Toddlers?

There is a long list of activities that you can do with your toddlers. In the begining you will have to sit with him/her a couple of times to do the activity  and also try  reinforcing it so that they develop interest and also know how to do it indepenedently when the same activity is given to them a couple of  days later .Activities that toddler can enjoy are:

1)Pasting (it could be pasting crepe papers, newspapers, ribbons, leaves etc...)

2)Finger painting

3)Nature collage(you can ask them to collect leaves, grass, twigs, gum nuts, beans etcc)

4)Stamping(stamps with ink pads are great other wise you can cut our different shapes from potato and other vegetables for stamping)

5)Drawing with chalk(use your drive way for this activity or maybe a stick on chalk sheet would do great outdoors!!)

6)Dot markers (these are great when you dont have much time to clean up the mess and are easy to use)

Favourite titles for under 5 year olds

There is a whole pile of books on our shelves which we read over and over again without getting bored and there are some titles which can be read a million times and i remember my little ones loved those ones alot and I would like to share some over here.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar By Eric Carle: This is a fantastic book which all my kids loved when they were young and its one of my favourite too. This book teaches children about days of the week ,life cycle of a butterfly , counting and colours. This book is full of colours as well as excitement and kids love guess the next snack which the hungry caterpillar would like to eat next.

Pete The Cat by James Dean :These are wonderful series for preschoolers. All the books in the series have a humorous brightly illustrated cat which catches the attention of the child and are worth to buy. These ones were popular in our house when my 3rd daughter was three years old and she loved them .I highly recommend this book.

Where Is The Green Sheep? By Mem Fox:Mem Fox is a very popular Australian author who has written wonderful book and Where Is Green Sheep ?one of them. It is a favourite book among preschoolers. It is an adventure story in search of green sheep and also teaches kids opposites such as near and far, up and down etc.....as well as colours. The kids love to listen to this story which has rhymes and repitition and my daughter used to ask me to read it to her over and over again.

Where's Spot?By Eric Hill:This ones again an exciting book which kids love. They like to lift the flaps and find out where spot is hiding. There are about 51 Spot books and all of them are interesting such as Spot's First Walk,Spot Goes To School,Spot Goes To The Farm etc...This book would be a perfect present for 0-5 year olds.
